When we arrived at this site, the backyard was a blank slope with not much of useable flat lawn space and only a tiny existing patio. The homeowners have young children and love to entertain, and they wanted to create a spacious patio with flexibility for furniture layout. We created a two-tier space: a pool level and a patio level by working within the existing slope. This allowed separation for adult space and children space, including a flat lawn area. A fire pit seating area was constructed, as well as a large concrete countertop for the outdoor kitchen space.
We ultimately wanted to seamlessly blend the indoor living to the outdoor space, and large oversized steps allowed for a better flow. We created two walls to surround the pool area, the larger nicer one that faces out, and the back one engineered for the slope and screened off with grasses. Overall, the homeowner wanted to keep the design minimalistic, with a sleek and modern Hampton feel to the property. Simple lines, white materials, clean and minimal landscaping were all used to achieve this overall look.
