Spa Garden Oasis in Newton, NJ

This multi-award winning property started with just a driveway and old railroad tie walls, and became a garden oasis with a hidden spa. When the homeowner bought this property, she knew there was a nice view of the river from the top of the slope and wanted to find a way to utilize it. The spa organically happened from there, it was not part of the original plan. Our main focus had been to stabilize the slope, considering the house is situated at the bottom we needed to ensure it would not crumble.

This homeowner loves plant material, and we wanted to stay true to country farm like setting. We did big masses of perennials grasses and native materials. We added in an outdoor kitchen with a floating grill, and hand selected stone from a local quarry. Firepit was also hand selected and has chisel marks from quarry, which fit in nicely with the old-world feeling. The staircase is all Kearney steps and wanted it to feel like it had been there for a while and not appear to be brand new. There was 25-feet of grade change, so we needed to break it up in phases and in doing so, created a garden like experience as you walk up and down the steps.
